Canada—The World's Least Confident Parliament
Monday's general election not only gave Canadians a second consecutive minority government, it also gave Canada top honours as the nation with the most prime ministers to have been defeated by votes of non-confidence. Tied for first with the UK since Joe Clark's astounding nine-month term came to a crashing halt in 1980, we have now pulled ahead to stand atop the list with five PM's recently reproached and removed. That's no small feat—especially given the cost of elections nowadays (see yesterday's post). And, with the previous Liberal minority government being replaced with an ages-old nemesis Conservative minority government, we're sure to see another non-confidence motion hit the floor by the time Harper's term is served.
Come to think of it, I don't have a hell of a lot of confidence in the new government either, and they haven't even been sworn in yet.
